Verse (Roman transliteration)
Translation
Physical pleasures are enjoyed with delight, but later they bring disease to the body. Even though death is the universal refuge, the archer of desire does not release his arrow.
The teaching
Every pleasure has a cost — often paid later in the body. Yet knowing this, we pursue pleasures compulsively. And even death, which all of us know is coming, does not shake loose our attachments. Shankara images desire as an archer who never stops shooting even when the target is gone.
Living this today
Illustrative example: If you keep accepting work after your day is full, describe the next request honestly: what would have to move? Discuss that trade-off rather than relying on willpower alone. This reflection does not replace health advice.
